Acute hepatic porphyria (AHP) Infusion Therapy
Acute Hepatic Porphyria (AHP) refers to a group of rare, inherited metabolic disorders characterized by a deficiency in specific enzymes along the heme biosynthesis pathway in the liver. This deficiency leads to the dangerous accumulation of toxic porphyrin precursors—specifically delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and porphobilinogen (PBG).
AHP presents with severe, potentially life-threatening neurovisceral attacks that include debilitating abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, hypertension, and central nervous system disturbances. Attacks can be triggered by medications, hormonal fluctuations, nutritional deficits, stress, or infections.
Violet Health provides specialized care for individuals with AHP, including preventative administration of GIVLAARI® (givosiran)—an FDA-approved RNAi therapeutic that significantly reduces attack frequency by lowering toxic precursor levels. Our experienced healthcare professionals deliver monitoring and infusion care in a tranquil, outpatient clinical environment.
