BONIVA® Infusion Therapy

About BONIVA® Injection Therapy
BONIVA® (ibandronate sodium) is a bisphosphonate medication designed to protect and strengthen your bones. To understand how BONIVA® works, it's helpful to know that your bones are constantly going through a natural process of breaking down old bone tissue and building new bone tissue. This process is called bone remodeling.
In certain conditions, particularly osteoporosis, the breakdown of bone happens faster than new bone can be built, leading to weakened bones that are more susceptible to fractures. BONIVA® works by slowing down the cells responsible for bone breakdown (called osteoclasts), which helps shift the balance back toward bone building and preservation.

Condition treated by this therapy
BONIVA® is FDA-Approved for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

BONIVA® Price
The cost of prescription medications can vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you're concerned about the price of your medication:
- Contact your insurance provider to understand your coverage
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist about lower-cost alternatives
- Check with the drug manufacturer about financial assistance programs
- Explore patient assistance options if you're uninsured or underinsured
Remember, many resources exist to help patients access necessary medications. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you're struggling with medication costs. No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Violet Health team.
What to Expect During BONIVA® Therapy
If your provider prescribes BONIVA®, you will typically recieve an infusion therappy once every three months (quarterly), making it a convenient option for busy lifestyles.
The infusion is given through IV (intravenous) and takes aproximately 15-30 minutes to complete. However, our clinical staff may monitor you for an additional 30 minutes to ensure you have no reactions for your first few infusions.
Remember to arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment and be well hydrated. When you arrive at Violet Health, you'll step into an environment designed for your comfort, wellness and ease. Our spa-like setting helps transform your infusion appointment into a peaceful retreat.

- Injection site reactions (swelling, bruising, etc.)
- Abdominal pain or upset stomach
