DALVANCE® Infusion Therapy

About DALVANCE Infusion Therapy

DALVANCE® (dalbavancin) is an FDA-approved, long-acting intravenous (IV) antibiotic used to treat serious skin infections. By choosing DALVANCE infusion therapy, patients benefit from a medication uniquely designed with a prolonged half-life, meaning it stays active in the body for a long time to fight the infection.

Instead of requiring daily IV antibiotic treatments that can keep patients tethered to a clinic or hospital, DALVANCE® is administered as a quick 30-minute infusion. Depending on your doctor's recommendation, it is given as either a single, one-time dose (1500 mg) or a two-dose regimen (1000 mg followed by a 500 mg dose one week later).

Conditions treated by this therapy

DALVANCE® is specifically indicated for the treatment of Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI) in adult and pediatric patients.

It is highly effective against susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, including hard-to-treat strains such as:

  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA)
  • Streptococcus pyogenes and other Streptococcus species

Prior to beginning therapy, a healthcare provider will evaluate the infection to ensure it is caused by bacteria susceptible to DALVANCE®. It is not used for Gram-negative bacterial infections.

CABENUVA® Price

The cost of prescription medications can vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you're concerned about the price of your medication:

  • Contact your insurance provider to understand your coverage
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist about lower-cost alternatives
  • Check with the drug manufacturer about financial assistance programs
  • Explore patient assistance options if you're uninsured or underinsured

Remember, many resources exist to help patients access necessary medications. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you're struggling with medication costs. No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Violet Health team.

DALVANCE® Side Effects

Because DALVANCE® is administered directly into the bloodstream, it must be infused over exactly 30 minutes to minimize the risk of infusion-related reactions. If given too rapidly, it can cause symptoms similar to "Red-Man Syndrome," including flushing of the upper body, rash, itching, and back pain. Common Side Effects:

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

Patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to dalbavancin or other glycopeptide antibiotics (like vancomycin) should inform their provider before starting treatment. Like nearly all systemic antibiotics, there is a risk of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD).
