About EXDENSUR® Injection Therapy
EXDENSUR® (elapegademase-lvlr) is an enzyme replacement therapy designed to treat adenosine deaminase severe combined immune deficiency (ADA-SCID), a rare and serious genetic condition. To understand how EXDENSUR® works, it's helpful to know about the role of enzymes in your body.
In ADA-SCID, the body lacks a crucial enzyme called adenosine deaminase (ADA), which is responsible for breaking down toxic substances that would otherwise accumulate and damage the immune system. EXDENSUR® provides the missing ADA enzyme directly to your body through regular infusions. The medication is a pegylated form of the enzyme, meaning it's been modified to last longer in your system and work more effectively. By supplying this essential enzyme, EXDENSUR® helps clear toxic metabolites, allowing your immune system to recover and function more normally.

Conditions treated by this therapy
EXDENSUR® is FDA-approved for enzyme replacement therapy in patients with adenosine deaminase severe combined immune deficiency (ADA-SCID) who are not candidates for or did not have successful hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

EXDENSUR® Price
The cost of prescription medications can vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you're concerned about the price of your medication:
- Contact your insurance provider to understand your coverage
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist about lower-cost alternatives
- Check with the drug manufacturer about financial assistance programs
- Explore patient assistance options if you're uninsured or underinsured
Remember, many resources exist to help patients access necessary medications. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you're struggling with medication costs. No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Violet Health team.
What to Expect During EXDENSUR® Injection Therapy
EXDENSUR® is administered as an intramuscular (IM) injection, not an intravenous infusion. The dosing schedule is highly individualized based on your body weight, immune function, and response to therapy. Most patients receive injections weekly or multiple times per week as determined by their specialist.
When you arrive at our West Bloomfield location, you'll experience our calming, wellness-focused atmosphere. Our experienced team will:
- Review your current health status and any concerns
- Check your vital signs
- Administer the injection (typically in the thigh or upper arm)
- Monitor you for any immediate reactions
- Ensure your comfort throughout the brief procedure
The injection itself takes only a few minutes, though we'll monitor you for a period afterward to ensure you're feeling well before you leave.
Our team at Violet Infusions coordinates closely with your specialist to ensure seamless care and will help you stay on track with your regular treatment schedule.
