Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion therapy delivers antibodies directly into the bloodstream to help strengthen the immune system, fight infections, and reduce inflammation. This therapy helps enhance immune response, reduce inflammation, and protect against infections in patients whose immune systems are compromised due to conditions like primary immunodeficiency, lupus, myositis, vasculitis, or as a side effect of treatments such as chemotherapy or immunosuppressants. IVIG is typically administered in an outpatient setting under close medical supervision to ensure safety and effectiveness.
IVIG is used to treat immune-related diseases, including primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, where the body lacks sufficient antibodies to fight infections.
IVIG effectively treats diseases that fall into the following categories:
Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDD) – like Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), X-linked Agammaglobulinemia (XLA), and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)
Secondary Immunodeficiency – caused by conditions like HIV or by treatments such as chemotherapy or long-term corticosteroid use
Autoimmune Diseases – Conditions such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Myositis/Polymyositis/Dermatomyositis, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia, and Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP).
Neurological Disorders – Such as Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN), and Myasthenia Gravis.
Inflammatory and Vasculitic Conditions – Such as Kawasaki Disease, Adult-onset Still’s Disease, and Vasculitis.
In all these conditions, IVIG helps either replace missing antibodies, suppress harmful immune activity, or modulate the immune system’s inflammatory response.
